New rowing canal sports complex will open in Altai Krai
The opening ceremony of the first phase of a new sports complex - a unique rowing canal was held in Altai Krai. By including this object into the Federal target program the region attracted more than 70 million rubles from the federal budget, the investment from the regional budget amounted to 170 million rubles. The sports complex includes four gyms, showers, methodical and medical offices, a conference room and a necessary set of utility rooms.
Its construction has lasted several years, and it is planned to hold the All-Russian competitions there in the near future. The Head of the region Alexander Karlin, Altai veterans of sport, young athletes, as well as a world champion, a member of the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro Andrey Kraytor and his colleague in the national team - Ruslan Mamutov visited the complex opening.
Both beginners and proficient sportsmen can take sports in a unique rowing channel. It is planned that the national team of Russia will train for the Olympic Games in Tokyo in 2020.
“We were gradually preparing for the opening for years. We have started with the road, which we have built to rowing channel in 2008. Today, you can see the result of the builders’ work. Funds for the object are very serious. Moreover, the regional budget allocated money twice. More than 300 children today take this Olympic sport in Altai Krai”, - said the Governor of Altai Krai Alexander Karlin.
Opened center will operate all year round.
Rowing canal was built in 1984 and is the construction of 1.6 km long, reaching in some areas 110 m wide, at the same time, it is a very deep, clean and does not grow over. Up to 400 people simultaneously can train there.
Rowing canal sports complex is the only site in the Siberian Federal District, which fully meets international standards for the preparation of competitive sportsman and competitions in rowing and canoeing. The total land area is 44 hectares, which allows to be considered as not only for training camps and competitions in rowing and canoeing, but also for training in other sports and active recreation.
It should be reminded that the traditions of rowing are more than half a century in Altai Krai. However, the Altai regional public organization “Water-sports club” was established only in 1985. The Youth Athletic Center on Rowing and Canoeing named after Konstantin Kostenko was opened in the region after two decades. Its opening was initiated the arrival of the Russian national team on rowing and canoeing in preparation for the 29th Olympic Games in Beijing.
In 2012, it was formed the Altai Federation of Rowing and Canoeing, three years later, by order of the Ministry of Sport of Russia rowing and canoeing was included in the list of base sports of Altai Krai.
Today, 330 people take sports in Youth Athletic Center on Rowing, and 115 athletes improved their sports categories. In recent years, apart from the rowing canal in Barnaul, divisions of rowing and canoeing have being opened in Pavlovsk, Biysk and Barnaul Zaton.
