The Altai region is well known as a region traditionally provides food security of the country. Numerous examples of successful Altai farmers were written in the history of Russian business. At the beginning of the XX century butter from Barnaul, Biysk and Kamen-na-Obi was exported in significant quantities in the countries of Western Europe, because it is characterized by high quality and it was relatively inexpensive. It was in the price not only Altai oil. London was very interested in the Siberian wheat and rye. The high quality of these products provided them a huge demand for the English market. Today Altai region has not only kept but also strengthened its leading position among the suppliers of food products. The region takes the first place in terms of the production of flour and cheese, the second - for the production of cereals, the third - for the production of pasta, the fourth - for the production of butter. The region is in the group of leaders in the production of meat and vegetable oil.
"Altai Territory is the only subject of the Russian Federation beyond the Urals producing and processing sugar beets. It also has a great potential for development in the production of flax", establishes the edition of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation.
One of the actively working areas for investment attraction is "green" and "industrial" biotechnologies. Products of Altai biopharmaceutical cluster on the basis of ecologically pure natural raw materials are distributed in fifty-three regions of Russia and in eighteen countries.
Important and attractive investment sector of the economy of the region becomes the tourism industry. Today the Altai region is on a par with the resorts of the Krasnodar Territory and the Caucasian Mineral Waters, and it is a recognized health resort.
