The climate is temperate, sharply continental. It is formed as a result of frequent changes of air masses coming from the Atlantic, Arctic, Eastern Siberia and Central Asia. There is a clearly marked contrast between cold long and warm short seasons of the year.

Economy

The Altai Region is the largest organic food producer in Russia.

The region is the leader among the constituent entities of the Russian Federation in terms of area under cereals and leguminous crops. The region ranks first in Siberia in terms of gross grain harvest. The Altai Region is the only region from the Urals to the Far East that grows sugar beet, the largest producer of sunflower oil seeds in the Siberian Federal District.
